Employment news seems to get more discouraging by the day. Through January, the economy had lost 3.6 million jobs since the current recession began in December, 2007. The pace accelerated at the end of 2008 and beginning of 2009, with nearly 1.8 million jobs disappearing over a three month period covering November, December and January.

Here’s a list of job losses, by month, since January, 2008:

January: 72,000

February: 144,000

March: 122,000

April: 160,000

May: 137,000

June: 161,000

July: 128,000

August: 175,000

September: 321,000

October: 380,000

November: 597,000

December: 577,000
